The new “Popular” on Tumblr is completely and utterly useless. The old version which displayed popular content very similar to one’s dashboard was hands down better at surfacing new and interesting content for me. I also miss the “Upcoming” section from the former “Popular” page. This updated quite frequently and introduced me to countless content from users I would have otherwise had no contact with. The component’s usability is off too. Pausing the stories on mouse over is clever at first but pretty annoying as the only means to access this stream of content. The stream has no speed setting. If I miss something because I didn’t pause in time then I am out of luck. I wish the old version would come back.
